Concept
The art direction and typographic choices were central to the creative concept behind the project with each typeface having a key purpose. The hero typeface was used to mimic the shape and flow of water through the canals, while the condensed typeface matched the tightly spaced buildings across the city. Secondary typefaces were used for clean longer body copy or to add historical flair to headlines. Colour wise, the project drew its palette from the bold, high impact Amsterdam flag. Type and colour was combined in a way that created very high contrast and a sense of scale, to represent the many contrasts within the city and
culture of Amsterdam.
